About the Artist

ALIZAH
"I think of ALIZAH like I think of Captain Planet. You've heard her play projects doing deep southern soul. Free improvisation Yoko Ono style freakout projects. Sexy R&B projects, and deep introspective singer-songwriter projects. It's when all these forces are combined that the superhero called Alizah comes to save us all."
- Jason Van Ness
Convergence Sound Experiments
ALIZAH is a multi-award-winning artist from Jackson Hts, NY, currently based in New Orleans. A published writer and composer, ALIZAH was the inspiration for the 2007 Haight Ashbury Street Fair poster, won 3rd place in a NYC-wide scholarship program for her songwriting in 1999, and was voted 2nd-best local artist in both 2024 & 2025 for Gambit’s “Best of New Orleans." She has performed with 2 Grammy-winning artists, sings with a variety of local projects, and is currently recording her 2nd original album.
Classically trained in both voice and piano, and fueled by a fierce love of sound,
ALIZAH continuously pushes perceived boundaries in music, blending so-called "genres" to find what sounds true to her. When she was aged 12, a spiritual teacher gave her the name "Alizah", which means "Joyful One," because she was always singing.
"I see art in everything, and I am almost always inspired. My favorite thing to do is sing. Sometimes I want to be an electric guitar or a flute or a bird, but I love being a human because we can do so much with our voices. More than I think we realize." - ALIZAH
